The thing that is wrong with shelter dogs

Jan 27, 2021ForTheAnimals

“The only thing wrong with shelter dogs is that they were let down by humans.”

We’ve all made choices in the past that in hindsight, we could have made better choices – for us or for others – so when we know better, we’re obliged to do better.

Did you know that, on average, TEN THOUSAND previously loved pets are put down EVERY DAY? E.v.e.r.y day. It’s not because shelters are heartless but it’s because too many animals, including *pure breeds, are being dumped, discarded or confiscated and the shelters don’t have space nor resources for an additional 10 000 daily.

Where does that leave us? Unless you know 10 000 friends that want to adopt, daily, then please don’t add to the population by buying or breeding your own pets.

Until every cage (in shelters) is empty, please make adoption your only option.

IMPORTANT: Pets in shelters are not broken. They were let down by humans. Yes, some will require TLC and patience but once you earn their trust, you’ll have the most loyal and thankful of pets. And no, they don’t all have issues – physical or mental. Just like people, we’ve not all 100% healthy…same applies to pets, whether they’re *pure or mixed breeds.

BTW What is a *pure breed? It’s a man-made, genetically mutated combination of different breeds to create ‘x’. That’s it. Think about it this way: Do you choose your partner purely based on looks? How about their lineage? Bloodline? Nope? Then why are you choosing your pets this way?

Meet a soul. Not a look. Allow those souls to change your mind.

Now that we know better, let’s do better going forward. It’s so easy to do just one thing by choosing to save a life… or two. You’re saving the life that you’re adopting and then saving the life of the pet that takes his/her place. There is limited space in the shelters remember.
