In May 2026, JustOneThing365 founder Petra Laranjo will join an extraordinary group of global thinkers at the ROLA International Festival in Ibiza — sharing a panel with a Criminal Minds co-creator, a neuroscientist, an award-winning filmmaker, and the CEO of the Moleskine Foundation.

For a woman who started her journey collecting blankets for shelter animals in Johannesburg, the invitation is both unexpected and entirely fitting. Because at its heart, JustOneThing365 has always been about exactly what this panel explores: how ordinary people, showing up with intention, can shape the world around them.

“It’s easy to say someone should do something about it. Sometimes that someone is you. It’s each of us, showing up in whatever way we can.”

What the panel is about

The session is titled The Digital Coming-of-Age — AI, Imagination, and the Future of Storytelling. It explores how the first generation to grow up alongside AI can co-create with technology while staying grounded in who they actually are — preserving imagination, integrity and inner truth in a world increasingly shaped by machines.

Petra’s contribution to that conversation is rooted in a decade of watching people — youth to adults — discover their purpose through action through doing just one thing —  through showing up for a stranger, an animal, a community, or a cause that ‘makes their hearts beat loudest’. Not because it was trending and not because an algorithm told them to, but because their humanity knows it matters.

That’s alignment. And it may be the most important thing we can offer the next generation — not just how to use AI, but how to know themselves well enough to use it with intention and integrity.

What this means for JustOneThing365

JustOneThing365 was founded in 2015 on a simple belief: that if each of us does just one thing, 365 days a year, we can directly impact 14 610 lives in 40 years – be it for humans, for animals or for our planet.

Since then, the organisation has donated over 2 500 blankets to 19+ shelters, supported 40+ beneficiaries across South Africa — from Diepsloot to Cape Town to KwaZulu-Natal — and partnered with brands including Nexgard, Westpack, ABSA and Woman&Home Magazine to create campaigns that moved communities to act.

The ROLA panel is the first time JustOneThing365 takes that story to a truly global audience.

What Petra will be saying on that stage

Petra will be exploring what happens when young people discover that doing good isn’t something separate from who they are — it’s an expression of it —  and that the most powerful stories they’ll ever tell aren’t generated by AI, but lived through genuine human connection and contribution.

She’ll be sharing a project close to her heart — a disability-awareness play commissioned by the City of Cape Town, South Africa, which she took a step further by weaving in life alignment coaching for the young performers. That initiative reached over 25 000 previously disadvantaged youth across the Western Cape — and it was the story of that play, shared with ROLA’s founder, that sparked the invitation to Ibiza. Because at its core, acting and doing good share the same foundation: showing up, being present, and telling a truth that moves people.

The movement continues at home

While Petra is in Ibiza, a team of young volunteers from Curro Aurora school will be right here in Johannesburg — keeping JustOneThing365’s platforms alive, sharing ideas across our three pillars, with Ferguson Media and 919FM (TBC) as partners for our ‘Winter Blanket Drive’ for pets in need.

That’s what this movement has always looked like – not one person on a stage, but many people, in many places, each doing just one thing.
