The opportunity  to be involved with the JustOneThing365 Kennel Build Initiative could not have come at a better time for us.

We had just adopted our very own rescue FurBaby and were most excited to get involved in this amazing concept of being able to help other furbabies have a place to call their own.

Building the kennels and decorating them was a great experience, filled with many laughs and new DIY knowledge. The true meaning, however, was in the distribution of these kennels and items donated. I had been raised in a family and school that focused a great deal on community service and giving back and this experience brought me back to those roots.

It was extremely humbling to see how some people who have so little still find a way to give to their pet and how grateful they were that they could now do more. Something as simple as a kennel or bag of food, something we take for granted in our own homes every day, meant so much more to the people and animals it helped.

It was a wonderful feeling to know that the hard work put in during a fun day had a meaningful outcome – one that hopefully made many furbabies lives easier and more comfortable. So often we take things for granted – or take part in initiatives “for the fun of it”. That is important, but it is also essential that we never forget why we are doing something and being a part of the outcome of an initiative, such as the Kennel Build, really serves to put things in perspective.

To be able to come home that day and let our little pup cuddle up on the couch in what is now HER seat, felt even more important and special. A reminder to Adopt – Don’t Shop for sure. Thank you to JustOneThing365 for giving us the opportunity to get involved in something so close to our hearts.
