Few South Africans will forget the 26th of March 2020 – the first day of nationwide lockdown in South Africa due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus. This will be in the history books worldwide!
But, for the purposes of this post, let’s rewind a day when I was in my usual ‘gotta make it happen’ mode – coordinating, collecting and distributing dog food to a few animal shelters across Gauteng so that the pets in their care, and additional intakes, would be fed during Lockdown.
Our #fortheanimals angels this time? Petzone stores! They generously donated 48 bags of pet food (over 300kg’s) which we shared between A New Hope Dog Rescue, Gudwulfs Pitbull Rescue, Woodrock Animal Rescue, PETS JHB Rescue and the Animal Protection Network.
You really stepped in and helped relieve some of the stress that these shelters were facing! Thank you!
While all of this was going on, I was chatting with the GM at the Randburg SPCA, who are in our area, and realized that 3-5 of their staff members were going to be staying on the premises in lockdown with the animals. They needed bedding! This is where our friends at 67 Blankets came to the rescue. They made a plan and dropped off arms full of lovingly knitted blankets for the staff the next day!
Some of our other beauties like Aurelie Stanton also dropped off bags of food for the staff! – “@eloquenta Shelters have been inundated with animals. Your pets cannot give you #covid-19 if you can please help before #lockdown and drop off some food @justonething365 “
